September 27, 2008 - Storm Damage: How did it affect wild animals?
OWC received over 100 animals in its wildlife hospital due to the wind storm on Sunday, September 14. Fortunately, volunteers were willing to sacrifice and work overtime to help the center care for the excess numbers, and residents bringing in animals showed their compassion by donating over $1,000 in total to the hospital!
Eastern gray squirrel orphans, and goldfinch and mourning dove orphans made up the largest number of intakes that week.
OWC encouraged residents to attempt a "family reunion" with the animals before bringing them in, as the first priority is always to reunite the babies with their parents. Those that could not be reunited were brought in to the hospital and could remain in OWC's care for several months before they are eligible for release.
