Basic Duties
Cleaning and general animal husbandry.
Feeding wild patients with consideration for their natural diets and foraging behaviors.
Assisting with medical treatments.
Caring for orphaned neonatal wildlife.
Educating and working with the public.
As the intern’s knowledge increases, the intern will be given additional responsibilities.
Qualifications
Sincere interest in working with and learning about wildlife.
Must be motivated, detail-oriented and have strong work ethic.
Must work well independently, and as part of a team.
Prior wildlife rehabilitation experience may be beneficial, but is NOT required.
Must be able to comfortably lift 40 pounds and be in good physical condition (as needed to safely restrain wild animals).
Internships are unpaid. The duration of the intership must be at least 12 weeks, with a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Application Process
All prospective interns must attend a one-hour Volunteer Information Meeting, followed by Level 1 Training. The dates for information meetings and training are listed here.
It is preferred that intern candidates attend an information meeting as soon as possible and complete Level 1 Training in either February or April to allow adequate time for training prior to the internship commencing. Please continue to check our website for meeting and training dates.
